The story of Bones & Beeker

Filmmaker Lamar Landers traveled out to Minneapolis to interview singer-songwriter Anthony Newes and producer/multi-instrumentalist BK-One of Bones & Beeker for his series Theorematic.

“A fusion of hip-hop backdrops, live strings, and an alternative lead develops into ear pleasing audio properties. Bones & Beeker proves to be a combination worth making your acquaintance,” Landers writes.

Bones & Beeker’s debut album comes out November 13 on Wax Poetics Records.

BK-One drops the “B-Boy Break Maschine Mini-Mix”

BK-One's "B-Boy Break Maschine Mini-Mix"

Last spring, when producer, DJ, and multi-instrumentalist BK-One was invited to lecture at the McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, Minnesota, he performed a showcase of his music, DJing a hip-hop set of some of his Rhymesayers productions, with rappers Brother Ali, I Self Devine, and Toki Wright joining in as guests. He also wrote and performed two original pieces with students of the brass and woodwinds department, as well as performing his song “Tema Do Canibal” from his album Rádio do Canibal.

Last but not least, he DJed a ten-minute mix of classic hip-hop and old-school breakbeats (heard here) using two turntables and Native Instruments’ Maschine, while a squad of nine b-boys and girls performed a choreographed dance routine.

BK-One’s new project, Bones & Beeker, is a mix of hip-hop-inspired production and hip, harmony-rich songwriting. The self-titled album drops on November 15 on Wax Poetics Records.
